The couple prefer no gifts. Schmitt and the former Helen Rexing were married Jan. 30, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in the county. They are the parents of Daniel Schmitt, Mark Schmitt, Jane Herr and Laura Inkenbrandt, all of Wadesville, Victor Schmitt of Springfield, Elaine Zimmer of Evansville and the late Dennis Schmitt.
They have 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Norman Schmitt is a retired farmer. Helen Schmitt is a volunteer at Deaconess Hospital.
