Synopsis
The spirit world is about to be rocked...
A young musician and singer named Johnny has been notified by a law firm that his mother, an aging rock star whom Johnny hasn't seen or heard from since he was 3 years old, has died in a helicopter accident. Johnny has been willed her castle and all of her property and money, but he must visit the actual castle to claim these things.

watched in 3D thanks to an incredibly obscure rip of an old Sensio DVD. i'm obsessed with the idea of cinema as literal theme park attraction - IMAX spectacle meant to pass the time at a science museum. 40 minute IMAX movies are grounds for bizarre experimentation and this is perhaps one of the most hallucinatory things i've seen.
here you get a kid who wants to be a rockstar - his mom died in a helicopter crash and left him a haunted mansion filled with demonic entities. he traverses the mansion as demons beg him to sell his soul to become a famous musician. there is a rollercoaster section, which takes you on a trip through literal hell.

This a movie very of it's time. By todays standards this is not a good movie, maybe if i've seen it in 2001 it would have been very different feeling. Overall i wouldn't really suggest it to a lot of people but if you want to see it it's on youtube for free.

A total CD-ROM, part point-and-click & part ride simulator with the best anaglyph 3D I’ve seen. Ben Stassen goes even harder than he did with Alien Adventure, tying together grisly surrealist imagery (those death windows, jesus!), stunted 90’s adventure game dialogue, and every halloween gag in the books. Been watching so much Godard I forgot what true cinema is...

The more of these IMAX movies I watch, the more I’m blown away and awed by the experimentation. This is for kids yet it’s reminiscent of the kind of online viral horrors 90s kids would uncover online on the home computer while our parents were at work. Ce film là passait TOUT LE TEMPS au Cinéma IMAX des Galeries de la Capitale. Je suis pas mal sur que toute les personnes de mon âge qui était proche de Québec ont été aller voir ce film dans une sortie pédagogique avec l'école. J'en étais terrifié de ce film. Mais on pouvait aussi aller dans des manèges qui me terrifiait aussi... ça faisait des sorties assez épeurante.

This film was shown ALL THE TIME at the Galeries de la Capitale IMAX Cinema. I'm pretty sure that everyone my age who was close to Quebec City went to see this movie as part of a field trip with the school. I was terrified of this movie. But we could also go on rides that terrified me too... it was a pretty scary school field trip. -

INTERESTING TO LOOK AT AND THE PLOT ABOUT MUSIC AND THE DEVIL AND THE HAUNTED CASTLE IS KIND OF COOL...BUT IF YOU AREN'T OOHING AND AAHING AT THE TECH...THE FLICK IS A LITTLE FDRY.

While it is perhaps slightly unfair to assess a film intended for the biggest of screens on a television (although admittedly a 43-inch TV, on which the end credits were still far too small to read), its problems are still obvious; CGI has come on in leaps and bounds since "Haunted Castle" first bowed in IMAX cinemas, and the years have not been especially kind to the film - although it must be said that the 3D does work surprisingly well (although maybe that's actually not too surprising when you consider how effective the 3D is in Stassen's recent feature films). It does, at least, try to marry a story to the visuals (something the novelty IMAX film had not really been doing to that point), and it remains of interest to those who've tracked Ben Stassen's career all the way up to his present position as a successful (and fairly prolific) director of animated features.

watched this while very tired. kinda overwhelming. wouldve put even more fear of god in me if seen as a kid. dozing off then back on the credits with that little creature bouncing the unreadable bubbles... thats cinema. i love art (y2k cg in stereoscopic 3d)
